Serving Our Community!

This Thanksgiving we had the unique opportunity to join other Sunday School classes in assembling and distributing Thanksgiving "baskets" to pre-screened familes in and around the Charlotte-Metro area.  Each box contained a turkey, dressing, yams, cranberry sauce, potatoes, rolls, pumpkin pie, green beans, pinto beans, spaghetti/spaghetti sauce, etc.  Panera bread also donated bags of cookies for each box!  We also included a bag of information about our church, a Bible, a CD, and a card :)  It was such a blessing to be able to witness the joy and appreciation these families experienced through our willingness to serve.  God used this opportunity to bless our hearts as well.  106 families (467 people) are now able to enjoy a warm, scrumptious Thanksgiving meal as a result.  This is exactly what we mean when we say we are to be the "hands and feet of Jesus".

Latest Job Update (Part 2)

Okay, so I had my interview and it went really well.  My friend, Charlotte, tells me she's pretty positive I'm gonna get the job.  She said that he HR Dept. wanted to make me an offer after I interviewed with them, but was reminded that there was still one more interview scheduled that they would need to follow through on.  But after close review of the other candidate's resume, she did not seem qualified for the job (she has no Admin experience).  So, hopefully this means that the offer will  come soon and we'll have a better idea of what our future holds.  Charlotte also sent me some BOA benefits information regarding adoption (so we could know ahead of time) and there were some changes.  A few years ago I thought I read that the credit was $11,000.  Turns out it's only $8,000 (which is still overly generous), but that's PER CHILD!  So if the Lord decides to bless us with twins or a sibling group, we'll get $8,000 towards each child . . . which is great b/c most agencies don't alter their fees much b/c you've decided to adopt multiple children . . . they just double or triple your fees instead!  Ugghh!  But this is a great reassurance that if we are so chosen to adopt multiples, we now have more coverage than expected! PTL!  I imagine I'll hear back about the job either today or the very beginning of next week.  It's been a long year being unemployed . . . but God has been SOOO good to us and has provided more than we could have ever asked for.  It just really goes to show that if we remain obedient to Him and good stewards of what He entrusts us with, He will bless us beyond expectation.

Job Update

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've updated the blog, there really hasn't been much going on worth writing about.  But I do have some news now :)  Last week I was informed by a friend of mine (who works for Bank of America - Corporate) that a new job had just come across her desk that she thought would be perfect for me.  So I emailed her my resume and within 10 minutes the staffing department was calling to set up a phone interview.  We had the interview the following day and it went well.  After completing a series of Microsoft Assessments and background checks, I had a face-to-face interview yesterday.  I met with 3 people during my interview at the Bank yesterday.  The job is an Administrative Assistant III position supporting the Sr. VP of E-commerce/E-channels and 3 other Executive Directors.  The main responsibilities of the job are calendaring, creating/updating powerpoint presentations, and keeping the Directors organized and efficient as a whole.  I met with the Sr. VP yesterday along with the HR Director and a fellow Admin to get a better idea of the position and environment.  All had very positive things to say about this Department within the Bank - and the people that I would specifically be working for.  They stressed that it was a "drama-free" department, everyone worked together as a team and maintained great senses of humor.  Honestly, outside of the responsibilities seeming a little intimidating at first (mostly b/c it's a new industry and I've been out of work for a year), it seems like a GREAT opportunity.  Not to mention the Bank has a good reputation for taking very good care of its associates.  Not only will it offer an $11,000 grant towards our adoption, but it will also allow me at least 3 months "maternity leave" to stay home with our baby once we bring him home.  However, there are still a few things that I'm not thrilled about.  The job would put me back in the center of Uptown Charlotte, working for a very large Corporate Company, and being gone roughly 10 hours a day (including bus time each way).  So, not ideal, but altogether a very good package.  It could help a lot with the adoption process.  All this said, I am confident that the Lord is sovereign over all and will open and close doors as He see's fit.  I have no reason to question, doubt, or be concerned in any way.  I'm just reminded to rest in His sovereignty and be a good steward of whatever it is He puts before me.
